National Capital Consortium (NCC) Orthopaedic Clerkship,
Internship and Residency
The Orthopaedic GME programs of the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) and Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) are now fully integrated under the National Capital Consortium.
Our pre-eminent program and distinguished faculty combine academics with unique clinical experiences to train future leaders in standards of excellence in orthopaedic care, research, and education. Medical students and residents are exposed to the complete spectrum of orthopaedic diagnoses, treatment and rehabilitation.
A strong emphasis is placed on orthopaedic subspecialties:
The students' clinical experiences are further enriched by rotations at Nemours Children’s hospital in Jacksonville Florida, Fairfax Community Hospital in Fairfax Virginia, and the Baltimore Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore MD. These rotations provide extraordinary opportunities in pediatric orthopaedics and community trauma.
WRNMMC and WRAMC serve as the tip of the spear in providing definitive surgical care and rehabilitation for battlefield injured soldiers and marines from the Global War on Terrorism. Residents receive an unparalleled experience in the orthopaedic management of these complex injuries and are provided outstanding opportunities to engage in war-related research.
Residents and staff meet daily during the week to discuss cases and address the core curriculum. The WRNMMC/WRAMC faculty works closely with the residents in all aspects of patient care from outpatient clinics to the operating room and wards.
The quest for ever-improving patient care for military readiness as well as for overall family health is our defining mission. To us, this means that our health practices are founded on the latest medical knowledge with state of the art technology. Delivery of service must, in our view, be in the trusted hands of a staff that possesses a caring, warm, and sincere human touch. |
The Army allows continuous training beginning with internship through to graduation. Navy trainees who have completed an Orthopaedic internship can be assured of continued Orthopaedic Residency Training at the NCC, after completion of GMO/Flight/UMO tour, unless selected to straight through training.
