The future will see integration of services and facilities of the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) and the Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC). We are excited about the positive impact of the integration on the residency program. The overall general plan for the National Capital Region currently involves relocation of many services, including subspecialty services, to the grounds of the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, MD. For our program, this means that essentially all services that are currently divided between the two facilities (WRAMC and WRNMMC) will be located on one campus in Bethesda in the future. This will lead to simplification of scheduling and call coverage. In addition, it is projected that the population available for our program will increase, due to realignment as well as changes occurring on Andrews Air Force Base. It is also projected that due to realignment, services at DeWitt Army Community Hospital at Fort Belvoir, VA, will also increase. Since we include a rotation at DeWitt currently, we are well-positioned to incorporate the enhanced experience at DeWitt in our program as changes start to take effect. In summary, all of those involved with the program anticipate many program benefits as a result of integration, further enhancing the educational experience of the residents.
