The National Capital Consortium
(NCC) is the agreement among Walter Reed National Military Medical Center
(WRNMMC) at
Bethesda and The Walter Reed Army Center (WRAMC) in Washington D.C.
and other facilities working under a larger umbrella with a common vision.
All directives are taken from NCC. The two campuses are homes to numerous
outpatient clinics and each has approximately 250 inpatient acute care
beds.
Mission
The mission of the NCC is to educate physicians, dentists, pharmacists,
and other healthcare professionals who care for soldiers, sailors, airmen,
and marines of all ages and their families. The NCC will provide a scholarly
environment and is dedicated to excellence in both education and healthcare
etc. The NCC is dedicated to instilling in these trainees the ethical
values and standards expected of those devoting their lives to public
service.
The NCC, by supplying leadership
and resources, complies with the Accreditation Council for Graduate
Medical Education (ACGME) Institutional Requirements and ensures that
Consortium-sponsored programs comply with ACGME program requirements.
All medical, dental, and pharmacy residency programs operate under the
authority and control of the Consortium. The Consortium regularly assesses
the quality of its educational programs.

Walter Reed National Military Medical Center
(WRNMMC) is The Flagship of Navy Medicine and
uniquely referred to as the President’s hospital. WRNMMC is a tertiary
care, university affiliated teaching hospital and referral facility.
We are located directly across the street from the National Institute
of Health (NIH) and the National Library of Medicine.

Walter
Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) is the Army’s premier medical
center. It is also a tertiary care, university affiliated teaching hospital
and referral facility for both nearby and worldwide military hospitals.
WRAMC currently provides care for wounded Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation
Iraqi Freedom soldiers and the majority of the care for amputees. Challenges
for treating these patients encompasses most medical specialties. WRAMC
is in northern Washington, D.C. approximately 5 miles from WRNMMC.

Overview
The purpose of the National
Capital Consortium Pharmacy Practice Residency (PGY1) Program is to
develop pharmacists who are valued members of the healthcare team, achieving
optimal drug therapy outcomes through the application of their knowledge.
In the Pharmacy Practice
Residency at WRNMMC and WRAMC, residents will have the opportunity to
participate in clinical, management, and distributive pharmacy services
at our tertiary care, university affiliated teaching hospital and referral
facility. The program provides flexibility for the residents to focus
on individual interests and career goals.
Experiences include internal medicine, formulary management,
pharmacy administration, critical care, oncology, and numerous others. Residents also participate in the medication
use evaluation process, precept PharmD students, and provide education lectures. A research project, worthy of
publication, is required.

Rockville Pike in Bethesda, Maryland.

Enter WRNMMC at the Main (South)
Gate across from NIH’s main entrance and the METRO (subway) stop.
Turn right onto Palmer Road South. Turn left at the 3-way stop sign
onto Brown Rd. Turn right into the first parking garage (Visitors’
Garage). Tell the guard you are visiting the pharmacy. After parking,
proceed to the 2nd level and to the Skyway, the enclosed walkway to
the Outpatient Center, Bldg 9. The Outpatient Pharmacy will be the first
area on the right. Facing the pharmacy windows, come to the door to
the right of the windows and press the buzzer.
