Individual Medical Readiness (IMR)

The DOD has identified IMR as a requirement for all active duty service members. The IMR program at WRNMMC is designed to maximize worldwide deployability by facilitating completion of medical readiness requirements during the member's birth month.

IMR consists of these essential components:

  1. Preventive Health Assessment (PHA): Service specific requirements for currency of a periodic health assessment. OPNAVINST 6120.3
  2. Deployment-Limiting Condition: Deployment-limiting conditions are defined by service-specific policies (e.g., pregnancy).
  3. Dental Readiness: All services use the same classification system to assess and monitor dental readiness. HA POLICY 97-020
  4. Immunization Status: Immunizations effectively prevent infectious diseases in the deployed as well as the non-deployed. Immunizations will be monitored and kept current according to the Service policy and occupational or deployment considerations.
  5. Readiness laboratory studies: Service-specific policies identify readiness labs such as: DNA, ABO blood typing, G6PD, Sickle Cell, and HIV.
  6. Individual Medical Equipment: Medical equipment will be monitored as appropriate for personnel subject to deployment, such as two pairs of glasses/contact lenses, and other Service and deployment-specific requirements (e.g., gas masks lens inserts, hearing protection and laser protection).

  • Partially Medically Ready – Lacking only immunizations, readiness laboratory studies, or medical equipment.
  • Not Medically Ready – Having a deployment limiting condition or dental class 3.
  • Medical Readiness Indeterminate – Inability to determine health status because of missing health record, overdue periodic health assessment or dental class 4.
Operational Readiness:
Birth-Month Readiness (BMR)

BMR is assessed by the Contingency Office and consists of administrative and training components, in addition to the IMR requirements noted above. BMR is often referred to as "R" status.

WRNMMC is responsible for reporting the operational readiness status of Core and Component UIC personnel attached to WRNMMC, excluding those personnel detailed to full-time training programs (i.e. fellows, residents, and interns).
