Turning a Vision Into Reality For a Center of Excellence. Imaging tech assisting patient with mammography.

The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) has long sought advancements in breast cancer treatment. In 1993, the General Surgery Clinic recognized that current treatment was complex and developed an interdisciplinary breast clinic. In 1994, Congress provided funding to create a “Center of Excellence in Breast Cancer Research” at WRNMMC. The Breast Care Center opened in 1995 with a vision for:

  • state-of-the-art patient care,
  • cutting-edge research and
  • progressive educational initiatives.

The Center is a living classroom for advanced medical training at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS).
