Clinical Stroke Team advances strategies for stroke prevention.

For more than a decade, the Department of Neurology’s Clinical Stroke Team at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) has been using state of the art methods to help treat patients having acute strokes.

To assure the best care for stroke patients at WRNMMC, the stroke team has implemented a multidisciplinary critical pathway. Specialists in Neurology, Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Radiology, Emergency Room and nursing work together to rapidly treat patients for acute strokes. Aphasia Communication Disorder

This disorder is an impaired ability to speak, understand speech, read and/or write. At WRNMMC, aphasia patients regain control of their communication skills with the help of the stroke team, WRNMMC's Neurology Clinic, and speech therapists. Early intervention, and possibly long-term therapy, is key to returning patients to the fullest possible lifestyle.
