Education Recognition
The American
Diabetes Association awarded Education
Recognition to the Diabetes Self-Management Education Program
at WRNMMC. This award recognizes programs that provide quality diabetes
self-management education services according to national standards.
The program is a total of 12 hours divided into three 4 hour sessions,
focusing on individual behavioral goal setting, lifestyle management,
and tracking of the A1C blood test. This program is offered every

Terrorism Service Medal
The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center
(WRNMMC) has earned the Global
War on Terrorism Service Medal for its support with contingency
operations pertaining to Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom
as well as its treatment to wounded Sailors and Marines.
"The staff epitomizes our nation because they have gone the
extra mile to take care of our men and women who have gone out to
the battlefields to protect freedom and justice around the world,"
said RDML Adam Robinson, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center
commander.

Promotion
In April 2004, The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center
(WRNMMC) was awarded
its second consecutive Navy Environmental
Health Center's (NEHC) Gold Star Award for Command Excellence in Health
Promotion.
The award recognizes Navy and Marine Corps commands for excellence
in Health Promotion. "Health promotion may be at the forefront
for this award, but it is a command effort, and we couldn't do it
without everyone's support," said Leigh Houck, department head
for Bethesda's Health Promotion department.
Award
for Combat Casualty Care
Secretary of the Navy, the Honorable Gordon England, presented
the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center
(WRNMMC) in Bethesda, Md., with
a Meritorious Unit Commendation (MUC) Friday.

Patient Satisfaction wins 2004 TRICARE awards
